Chapter 356: Movable by Human Strength, the Legend of Giants
Chapter 356: Movable by Human Strength, the Legend of Giants
He advanced along the city wall, the road seeming to have no end.
If the direction indicated by the Incomplete Seal in his hand hadn’t changed, Yang Chan would have thought he was simply walking straight ahead. In reality, he had begun moving in a circle. The position pointed to by the Incomplete Seal was the best proof of this, as was Yang Chan’s own perception. The discrepancy was subtle, growing harder to detect the closer he got, but it was there nonetheless.
As Yang Chan advanced, the path remained desolate. The city wall was like a great divide, cutting off all signs of life.
Yang Chan couldn’t see what lay beyond the city wall, but the scene within was perfectly clear.
He didn’t know how much time had passed, but Yang Chan’s Spirit was growing weary. The physical exhaustion from walking recovered extremely quickly; the effects of his Tai Chi Health Cultivation Skill were especially apparent at times like this, allowing his body to heal at an incredible rate. His spiritual recovery, however, was not nearly as fast.
Even though his Sword Master class had reached Tier Two, his Flood Dragon Demon Martial Seal was at Tier Three, and various Elixirs had boosted his abilities far beyond those of an ordinary person, he couldn’t bear the strain of constantly probing his surroundings with his Spiritual Power as he walked.
This prolonged effort naturally placed a great burden on him, but suddenly, Yang Chan’s Spirit flared with excitement.
He raised his head and, sure enough, saw something different.
A door stood embedded in the city wall. This could be the way out of this space, perhaps even the way out of Taiyin Heaven.
This was, of course, excellent news for Yang Chan.
His pace quickened, and he didn’t stop until he stood before the great door, which was over a hundred meters tall.
Compared to the three-hundred-meter-plus wall, a door a hundred meters tall was nothing special. But to Yang Chan, it was still immense.
It gave Yang Chan the feeling that this door wasn’t built for humans. Or to be more precise, not for ordinary humans, but for the legendary Giant Race.
According to legend, the Giant Race was long-lived. At birth, they stood five meters tall, growing to fifty meters upon reaching adulthood. Their strength was boundless and their Combat Power immense—they could battle the Divine Beasts of myth and legend, and even hunt them for food.
Yang Chan had, of course, read such myths. He had specifically looked them up after hearing the fantastical stories that circulated when the great drought in Qing State was resolved.
The Great Zhou Imperial Dynasty’s history wasn’t particularly long, but many of its historical records were inherited from the previous dynasty, the Great Yu Imperial Dynasty, and some from even more ancient times. These included myths and legends.
The Giant Race had certainly left an impression on Yang Chan. A thought had occurred to him upon seeing the three-hundred-meter-plus walls, and the sight of this hundred-meter-tall door made that thought even more concrete.
"Don’t tell me these walls were built by the giants of legend?"
Yang Chan muttered.
No one was there to answer him, but he held on to the idea, though he had no way to confirm it.
Still, the existence of such architecture couldn’t help but invite speculation.
Yang Chan approached the closed door. Though it was over a hundred meters tall and astonishingly heavy, he decided to give it a try.
After first probing the door to make sure it wasn’t dangerous, Yang Chan began to push. He put more and more strength into it, but there wasn’t the slightest sign of movement.
"Flood Dragon Demon Martial Seal!"
Yang Chan’s aura shifted as he channeled the Flood Dragon Demon Martial Seal into his body, causing his strength to surge once more.
"Hah!"
Immense power gathered in his hands, and he unleashed a mighty push—this was the full extent of his enhanced strength.
The veins on his arms were already bulging, his powerful muscles displayed in sharp relief.
When a Martial Arts Cultivator reached the realm of an Inner Master, they underwent a metamorphosis. Their Combat Power became immense, granting them terrifying destructive force and strength that far surpassed an ordinary person’s.
"GROAN!"
As the sound rang out, Yang Chan felt the hundred-meter door tremble, looking as though it was about to give way.
Joy flashed across Yang Chan’s face; that sound was the first sign of success.
But just as the sound echoed, Yang Chan felt an immense rebounding force surge from the door.
Sensing that something was wrong, Yang Chan immediately used the Wind-Stepping Technique to retreat. He saw a deep crater left in the spot where he had just been standing; it was the force rebounding from the hundred-meter door, which had struck the ground after he moved away.
Yang Chan didn’t look at the crater, however. His gaze was fixed on the hundred-meter door. The tiny gap he had managed to create had vanished as the door returned to its original position. This made Yang Chan’s brow tighten.
He had just sensed that if he had continued to apply force, he might have been able to push the door open, but a rebounding power had suddenly erupted from it.
That power seemed to be a special force inscribed within the stone door, designed to rebound the moment the door was pushed.
This reminded Yang Chan of how, when his fist struck the wall, the marks he left would quickly vanish as the surface returned to its smooth state.
The same thing happened even when he used the Dragon’s Tooth Short Sword; the damage never lasted long.
"Could it be that this door has a special Magic Array on it? Or some other power that’s meant to prevent it from being opened?"
Yang Chan muttered to himself.
If his Reaction hadn’t been so fast, he would already be injured and trying to heal. This made Yang Chan realize that the door was far from harmless.
As soon as the trigger condition was met, it would retaliate with considerable force.
’That last blast was strong enough to seriously injure me—the crater in the ground is proof of that. If I trigger it again, who knows if the force will be even stronger.’
Yang Chan had no intention of testing that theory. As long as that special power on the stone door remained, he would never be able to push it open. It would just return to its original position each time, making any attempt a futile effort.
Yang Chan searched the area around the stone door for a while, checking the wall and the door itself for some kind of mechanism. Some doors weren’t meant to be opened with brute force; triggering the right mechanism could open them easily.
Unfortunately, after several attempts, he still couldn’t find any such mechanism. Thankfully, the force he used wasn’t great, so he didn’t trigger the rebound power again.
"It seems my only choice is to keep moving forward."
Yang Chan let out a heavy sigh. He had thought that finding a door meant he could finally leave this strange space, only to find it wouldn’t open. It was infuriating.
Worse, trying to force it open would mean facing an even more dangerous power. This was terrible news for Yang Chan.
The glimmer of hope he’d felt was instantly shattered.
Taiyin Heaven was still far too foreign to him. The bizarre way he had entered left him with no idea where he was or how to get out, which only amplified his unease.
Everything here was an unknown. He hadn’t seen anyone else enter, so the hope of learning the way out from someone else was extremely slim.
At this point, he could only rely on himself.
