Chapter 236: How About Sending It to the K-9 Unit?

Chapter 236: How About Sending It to the K-9 Unit?

"This guy makes me roughhouse with him every day—all that pouncing and clawing." Shen Yibin pulled Shi Gaofei over and showed its claws to Bai Yanni. "Look at these claws. They could rival the Wolverine’s. And as a result, my arm ended up like this."

"Tsk, tsk. None of my colleagues in the K-9 unit are in such a sorry state." Bai Yanni’s fingers gently traced the scratches on Shen Yibin’s arm. The strange sensation felt like a jolt of electricity, making Shen Yibin want to pull his arm back, but at the same time, he couldn’t bear to.

"Do your colleagues in the K-9 unit train dogs like this, too?" Shen Yibin’s brain felt a little fried. ’Then again,’ he thought, ’it’s probably never worked right to begin with.’

"It depends on the breed. The ones responsible for narcotics detection are different from the ones for apprehension. The narcotics dogs are a bit easier; you just need to focus on training their sense of smell. But for the apprehension dogs, the emphasis is on aggression training," Bai Yanni continued. "Now *those* police dogs are the truly fierce ones."

At this, Shi Gaofei, who had been lying down quietly, suddenly lifted its head. It was hard to say if it had understood Bai Yanni’s words, but it looked ready to go pick a fight with those police dogs.

"Then the scars they have must be even worse than mine, right?" Shen Yibin asked with a sympathetic wince. If even a creature as smart as Shi Gaofei couldn’t always control itself, what about those police dogs that weren’t nearly as intelligent?

"Not really. The officers training police dogs all wear professional protective gear. No matter how hard the dogs bite, they can’t get hurt." With that, Bai Yanni started to pull Shen Yibin to his feet. "Come on. The K-9 unit sells the gear. I’ll take you to buy a set to save you from getting a more serious injury later."

’That’s right, how did I not think of that?’ Wearing the protective gear might be a little hot, but it was better than being covered in scratches from Shi Gaofei, wasn’t it? A scratch on his fleshy arm was one thing, but if Egg got clawed, he’d really lose it.

Shen Yibin quickly followed Bai Yanni out, and Shi Gaofei tagged along, which puzzled him. ’This guy isn’t usually like this, is he?’ It took quite a bit of coaxing to get it to go back inside.

With Bai Yanni’s help, Shen Yibin successfully bought the protective gear. The thick padding was enough to ensure he wouldn’t get hurt easily, filling him with confidence for their next training session. ’Hmm, if this is the case,’ he wondered, ’could I run a few fewer laps each day and roughhouse with it a bit longer? Would that save some energy?’

Back in the shop, Shen Yibin and Bai Yanni sat on the sofa, chatting idly. The other employees didn’t pay them much mind, but Xia Shixuan kept glancing in their direction. She seemed extremely curious about their relationship and would occasionally grab Sylvie’s arm to ask a few questions. Who knew what those two were talking about.

"Hey, you didn’t even give me a heads-up that you were coming. I could’ve taken you guys out somewhere fun." ’Yeah, I could take Shi Gaofei to the forest on the outskirts of the city and let it have a few good fights. That might buy me a couple of easy days, right?’ Shen Yibin remembered that Egg had caught a snake there once. ’Shi Gaofei would definitely love that, wouldn’t it? It’s just that the snakes here are probably a lot weaker than the ones on the African savanna. I hope Shi Gaofei won’t be too disappointed.’

"I’ve just been so exhausted lately. I fell asleep as soon as I got back last night." The two of them continued their idle chat on the sofa as time slowly ticked by. Soon, it was time for Shi Gaofei to take Shen Yibin for a walk again. This time, Shen Yibin went over to get the leash himself before Shi Gaofei could bring it to him.

"I’ll go with you," Bai Yanni said, standing up as well. And so, Shen Yibin—carrying a plastic bag of drinks, holding his protective suit, and leading Shi Gaofei on its leash—headed out of the pet shop with Hah’Er, Bai Yanni, and Sylvie, a grand procession making its way to the park.

Once they reached the park, Shen Yibin handed Hah’Er and the protective suit to Bai Yanni to look after. Then, with Shi Gaofei pulling him along, he began a frantic run along the lake. It wasn’t long before Bai Yanni found herself amazed. ’I never knew Bin had such good stamina.’ He had run so far at such a high speed and still seemed to have energy left over.

This came as quite a surprise to Bai Yanni. She had known Shen Yibin for some time, and the man she remembered from before definitely wasn’t capable of this. She hadn’t seen him for less than a month, yet he had changed so dramatically.

"Hah’Er, you’re up!" After three laps, Shen Yibin leaned against a tree, barely managing to stay on his feet. Having adapted over the past few days, he at least no longer collapsed onto the ground the moment he finished running.

After chugging a bottle of Gatorade, Shen Yibin started putting on the protective suit to face the next part of the challenge. As expected, the suit made a world of difference. If Shi Gaofei attacked with the same level of intensity as before, its claws and teeth wouldn’t be able to penetrate the gear.

"HUFF... HUFF..." Shi Gaofei let out a pair of excited, low growls. For some time, it had been holding back, afraid of hurting Shen Yibin, so it could never fully enjoy itself. Now, with this new gear, it could finally go all out.

And so, Shi Gaofei’s movements grew even more agile and its attacks more ferocious. The sound of sharp claws scraping against the protective suit filled the air. Thankfully, the suit was of excellent quality, and Shen Yibin wasn’t harmed. However, Shi Gaofei’s onslaught forced him to increase his dodging speed, because even with the suit, he would still get hurt if Shi Gaofei managed to land a solid bite.

’No wonder he reacted so quickly when I patted his shoulder this morning,’ Bai Yanni realized as she watched the scene unfold. ’If you train like this every day, your senses and reaction time are bound to improve dramatically.’

’And this Mongoose’s attacks are far more ferocious than any of the K-9 unit’s police dogs. Where on earth does Bin find all these strange animals?’

This time, Shi Gaofei relentlessly tormented him for over twenty minutes before finally stopping its assault. Afterward, the two of them collapsed onto their backs on the lawn, panting heavily. The "play" session had thoroughly exhausted them both.

"Here, have some water," Bai Yanni said, handing a bottle of mineral water to Shen Yibin. "What does it drink?"

"Don’t worry about it. It doesn’t let strangers get near," Shen Yibin said with a wave of his hand. Just then, Hah’Er walked over, carrying a bottle of honey water. For now, Shi Gaofei was only close to Hah’Er and Shen Yibin.

After they each finished their drinks and rested a little longer, Shen Yibin and Shi Gaofei regained some of their strength. Supported by Bai Yanni and Hah’Er, they started the walk back to the shop.

Back at the shop, he took a shower and started cooking. Bai Yanni, of course, stayed for dinner. While they were eating, she suddenly made a suggestion. "Bin, what do you think about bringing Shi Gaofei to teach a class for the K-9 unit?"
